» Taylor Swift’s Seawall Construction Upsets Neighbors
Taylor Swift has caused a stir with some of her neighbors in Rhode Island because of construction and repairs to the seawall at her beach front home.
Her land borders a public right-of-way to the beach, and several locals were worried that the work would affect access to the shore. Laura Dwyer, spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council, says rumors that she didn’t get necessary permits for the work aren’t true because she didn’t have to get any from the town, just the CRMC, which she did. She told the Providence Journal, “The larger boulders were historically there. We have photograph evidence from previous property owners that they were there, but they were covered with sand. When the applicant came in with plans…they were proposing to leave those rocks way out in the water. We were the ones who asked them to get those boulders as close to the seaward side of that concrete wall as possible.”
The damage to the wall was the result of Hurricane Sandy. Laura said the CRMC expected the permit applications from a celebrity would draw attention and she is in full compliance to all laws and regulations pertaining to keeping beach access open to the public.
