» Taylor Swift Squeezes One More Honor Into 2013
Taylor Swift has been named Tennessean of the Year by The Tennessean. The honor is awarded annually to “the person who has made the most exceptional contribution to the lives of Tennesseans this year.” They recognizes Taylor for becoming a worldwide ambassador for Nashville and for setting an example for people both young and old to follow.
The newspaper also highlights her philanthropy in Music City, citing her recent donation of $100,000 to the Nashville Symphony as well as her donation of $4 million dollars to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to construct the Taylor Swift Education Center, which opened in October.
Taylor moved to Nashville when she was 14 to pursue music, and she says the city helped her become the person she is today. “I would not be the same kind of person without Nashville. It has shaped me into who I am,” she says.
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean says, “She’s (Taylor) one of the most dynamic and popular musical performers in the world, and she’s perceived as having universal appeal across categories. She transcends genres, and that’s a great thing for the city.
