» George Jones Week Starts With Unveiling Of Monument

“George Jones Week” kicked off yesterday with the unveiling of a monument and a special announcement by his widow Nancy at the Woodland Roesch-Patton Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

The monument has “He Stopped Loving Her Today” engraved above a guitar and an etched photo of George and Nancy, framed by an archway with the name “Jones.” George started designing it before he passed away.

Before the unveiling, Nancy announced the creation of a new scholarship at Middle Tennessee State University in honor of George. The fund will help MTSU students pursue their musical and creative dreams.

More than a hundred acts are flocking to Nashville to honor George at Friday’s Playin’ Possum! The Final No Show, a tribute concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
