Country Music Hits Broadway

Kenny Chesney, Jake Owen and more country stars are heading to Broadway! Okay, not really, but a couple of their songs are.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival’s new production is called “Somewhere With You” and the music for it is modern country songs. Directed by Peter Zinn, it’s described as a coming-of-age love story between an aspiring country singer and a recovering meth addict and centering around a new generation of Southerners growing up in the early 2000s, confronted by the methamphetamine epidemic, the war in Iraq, and other post-9/11 challenges in the rural South.

Songwriter JT Harding is also part of the production team, and it’s his songs that will be featured in it. Among them are Kenny’s “Somewhere With You”, Jake’s “Alone With You” and Uncle Cracker’s “Smile”, along with several others.

Opening night for the show is July 8.
